For me, the ending is appropriate considering Darling In The Franxx is a tragic story in the line with Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid and Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve's Beauty and the Beast. What disappoints me is the manner the second half of the story was delivered.
However, with the continued silence surrounding the future of Darling in the Franxx, it's hard to put a prediction on a potential release date. If Darling in the Franxx is renewed for season 2

By Marc York Published May 17, 2022 Many fans of Darling in the Franxx didn't like the ending because it didn't live up to what came before it. Here's everything that went wrong. Darling in the Franxx was supposed to be the big anime of 2018.From the anime series "DARLING in the FRANXX" comes a scale figure of Zero Two in a wedding dress based on a special illustration by director Atsushi Nishigori that was drawn for the purpose of making this figure. Zero Two has been brought into figure form wearing a gorgeous wedding dress similar in appearance to the Strelitzia Apus 1 IT'S NOT PERFECT: Futoshi's Ending Is Weak. Compared to how he almost always got the short end of the stick in the series, Futoshi was treated only a bit better then Ikuno in the end. At the same time Futoshi gets married and becomes a baker. His wife and kids aren't even really introduced. Zero Two, easily one of the best aspects of Franxx, had her character completely neutered by the end of the series. Although her's and Hiro's relationship had served as the driving force behind the show, it distilled down to an aggravatingly shallow level.

Nothing actually mattered in the end because evil aliens did everything. APE didn't actually matter because they were being manipulated by the REAL final villain. All of the scenarios that Franxx proposed didn't matter because now we're going to focus on this other thing instead. It's a complete disaster, it destroys what little point the show
